    About the Course

If you’re reading this, you’re likely interested in exploring applied computational fluid dynamics (CFD) using the Simcenter STAR-CCM+ software
or another CFD tool. This course can be a first step in improving your job performance and furthering your career or educational trajectory.
We’ve created this course to help you use the knowledge of flow physics and computational fluid dynamics to obtain quality solutions of flow
and heat transfer problems most efficiently. This course is not about instructions on how to use a particular software. Simcenter STAR-CCM+
was used exclusively for all simulations presented in this course. Still, the learning outcomes would be the same if another pu...

There is nothing related to what the title of the course states. Basically the author is 'reading' some pictures of the results extracted for certain simulations without paying attention to any detail on the real application of the CFD knowledge. One is expecting some theoretical and PRACTICAL build-up towards a good/realistic result but the author just presents the initial conditions of a testcase simulation and goes straight to READ (yes, he is reading what he has to say, a very forced situation and no desire to teach feeling) the output data of the simulation (very nice colors and graphs to be said). After that, he describes what can everyone see in the figures but no explanation for the real physical phenomena.

I was expecting a deep teaching of why and how certain parameters of the CFD simulation were chosen (e.g. y+, boundary conditions, far-field boundary interference, mesh optimization, build informative graphs, etc.) and, nothing about that.

The course can be simplified as: 'we have this geometry, thiese are the fluid initial conditions, prism layers here and there and the results are these, we obtain a value of y+ = X and this is how the fluid is moving, thanks for the attention.'

This course can be defined as 'Reading some graphs just because', nothing about real CFD. VERY DISAPPOINTED that Siemens, with the great software they have with STAR CCM+, allows this to represent them.

A very good course with very detail explainations. I am working my thesis for CFD around two opposed curved buildings and this helps me on how to use best setting using what flow mode. Not only that, this course also offers a lot more analysis that can be learn to improve the fundamentals and understanding.

A good course on applied CFD that you can take to understand the flows encountered in engineering applications. Although SIMCENTER STAR - CCM+ is not used, the main purpose is to understand the optimal grid settings for a given test case based on the knowledge of the possible flow. Although, Professor Peric doesn't explain in detail, in some examples, why particular mesh method or turbulence model is used; he emphasizes more on what kind of results you can expect and why such results are to be expected. Familiarity with basic CFD and turbulence modeling is required. Good knowledge of Fluid Mechanics is must to thoroughly understand the course. Overall, a nice course to broaden one's understanding of applied CFD.

If a self-study university course was an online course, yep this it. If you are familiar with the concepts, you can easily clear the quizzes. This course is not recommended for absolute beginners. However, do try it for yourself. I wish Siemens would create a course on actually using the Simcenter STAR-CCM+. This course is just a professor explaining stuff. They even mention it in the VERY FIRST VIDEO that this is not a software-teaching course.

I recently had the pleasure of taking the Applied Computational Fluid Dynamics course on Coursera, and I must say it exceeded all my expectations. As an engineering enthusiast with a keen interest in fluid dynamics, this course provided me with an excellent opportunity to expand my knowledge and practical skills in the field.

The course structure was well-organized and logically presented, ensuring a smooth learning experience. The instructors were highly knowledgeable and passionate about the subject, and their expertise truly shone through their engaging lectures. The content was comprehensive, covering a wide range of topics from the fundamentals of fluid dynamics to advanced techniques used in computational simulations.

One of the aspects that truly impressed me was the hands-on approach the course took. Throughout the modules, we were given access to industry-standard software tools and encouraged to apply what we learned to solve real-world problems. The practical assignments and projects allowed me to gain valuable experience in modeling and simulating fluid flows, providing me with a solid foundation in the application of computational fluid dynamics (CFD).

In conclusion, this course is an exceptional resource for anyone looking to dive deep into the fascinating world of computational fluid dynamics. With its well-structured curriculum, experienced instructors, practical exercises, and supportive community, it offers a comprehensive and rewarding learning experience. I am truly grateful for the opportunity to have taken this course and wholeheartedly recommend it to others with a passion for fluid dynamics.

This is benificial because this course fill the gap between Finite element method and computational application which is finite element analysis through simulation.theoretical parts consist of fluid flow and heat transfer is reminded and analysed as well as computational related concepts like models of calculation, discretization is also mentioned in here through focusing on simulation setup condition.this knowledge could lead to perform a accurate engineering simulation using a given FEA simulation software.
